Thank you EarthFare! Because of you, we were able to enjoy this dinner for only $5! Isn't that incredible?!?! We got fresh Italian sausage, tomatoes, spinach, pasta, and Italian dressing for only $5. So awesome! Anyways, this dinner was another version of our Slow Cooker Marinara Sauce, which is always good. However, this time we added the $1 Italian Sausage that was part of the EarthFare deal instead of having it on its own or with turkey meatballs, which turned out great. Served with a fresh salad, this meal was filling, slightly unhealthy, and satisfying! The sausage really brought out some flavors that turkey meatballs have not been able to in the past. Plus, Will made this version which means it was done correctly, unlike the last time I made it!
Cooking Notes: Will cooked the Italian sausage separately, but then added it to the last 15-20 minutes of the marinara sauce so it could absorb the flavors.
2 28 oz cans crushed tomatoes
1 6 oz can tomato paste
1 yellow onion
1/2 tbsp minced garlic
2 bay leaves
1 tbsp dried basil
1/2 tbsp dried oregano
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
Salt & pepper
Italian sausage
Chopped fresh basil and rosemary to mix in whenever
Cut onion and mine garlic-put in slow cooker. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. Stir well to combine, then place in bay leaves. Secure slow cooker lid and let sit on low heat for 8 hours.
After 8 hours, remove the lid, stir in sausage and continue to cook for an additional 15-20 minutes. Add to the rest of your pasta dinner and enjoy!
